Someone there suggested using sections of UniStrut. This is an 
l-shaped steel channel that comes in various lengths up to 12 or 14 
feet each.

You will need to guy it, of course, but it should do what you want.

Again, check Lowes, Home Depot, etc, for local availability.

I was planning to use two sections to support each end of a new 40 
meter inverted V, but I was lucky enough to raid the last supply of 10 
foot mast sections which were on clearance at my local Radio Shack a 
few weeks ago.

Weather permitting, said antenna project is scheduled to happen in my 
back yard this Saturday along with a sloper for 160.
