Howdy Gerry.  Well now your making me think.  I use that meter several times 
a day but I do it so automatic I don't have to think about it.  There is two 
knobs on front. two push buttons.  One knob is the volume, the other is the 
speed of C W, from about five to sixty W P m.  The right push button tells 
you the S W R. when pushed it makes dits and the closer while tuning the 
faster the dits go and when tuned, steady tone.  The left button tells you 
the power through the meter.  Oh yes, one more thing is that if your S W R 
goes over three to one at anytime while Xmitting the meter sends V's until 
you retune. There is two jacks on rear panel which you can hook to an Amp. 
which shuts it down if the S W R gets over Three to one.  I think I'm right 
on that function but never use it so could be wrong.  It's a wonderful 
meter.  Sorry for such a long winded explanation
