I agree with you on all points here.
I rememberin the 1980s I used to visit my father in law up in the state of
Maine and could operate his rig without any help at all.
I used an Optacon and a calculator lens to read the led display.
I could also use that same technology to read the displays on a couple of
Icom rigs I owned.
I've nevr had such freedom.
I've got to get my Optacon revived and see if I can get another calculator
lens.
During the 1990s I sold my calculator lens andmy small print lens because I
needed the money. Should have kept both of them.
I'm off to see Ellen and a couple of other ham buddies in Stockton this
weekend.
