Find the sounds from the sound scheme you are currently using and save them
to a thumb drive or something (assuming you're starting on a new computer).


In Windows 7 you can transplant these into, I think, the \windows\media
folder.  Then you can associate the start and end events with the sounds you
like.  It's some work, but I don't think that the XP sounds are carried
forward into a new installlation.  I have some Windows 98 and 95 sounds on
this XP computer, and have moved a few of these to one of my Windows 7
computers.
