When I used to start getting a sore throat, I would heat up water until
boiling, add a shot of 80 proof rum, and add 2 tablespoons honey. If I knew
where to purchase gluten-free rum or if rum were gluten-free, I'd recommend
that recipe. Drink that baby while it's hot, and no more sore throat the
next day. Of course, this only works when you first start feeling the sore
throat coming on.

The most helpful treatment for me is Sambucus by Nature's Way which I get
at the health food store. It contains elderberry, echinacea, zinc, propolis
& vitamin C. Also I use Elderberry & Zinc lozenges by the Now
Co., also get it at the health food store. Both were highly recommended by
my family doctor.
I also make a tea of herbs listed in Jethro Kloss book, Back to Eden, for
upper respiratory problems. Mine usually start with a sore throat, slight
runny nose, etc. The herbs are chamomile, chickweed, coltsfoot,
eucalyptus, ginger, golden seal, hops, horehound, hyssop, mullein, red
clover & slippery elm bark. My health food store has these in bulk & I mix
them in equal parts, then sweeten the tea with honey. Sometimes I put them
in water in an open pot, on the stove & use like a vaporizer.
