Thanks, I'll clean the vents and check the memory. Is the power supply replaceable in an HP Pavilion, or is this not an option?

Typically, this would indicate a failing power supply. It can't hurt to
clean the vents thoroughly and maybe do a memory check, but there's
every chance it's time to replace this beast.

Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion laptop, about 6 tears old, running WinXP. Lately,
it has been starting erratically - sometimes right away, other times
requiring repeated pressings of the Start button. Sometimes only the
lights will come on but nothing happens on the screen.
Has anyone any insight into what causes this and how it can be fixed?
