I may be mistaken;, but I think another difference is that the 710 has APRS
and the 71a does not.

It is a great rig!
Did you know that the TM-V71a and the TM-D710A are the same radio? Only the
head makes the difference.
In other words, you could get the TM-D710A head and put it on yours and that
would make the total conversion.
Probably you already knew that.
