There are different g5RV's as well. I didn't mind the van Gordon one I used
to have at the former qth though the cobra ultralite was noticeably better
on all bands but 20. The one I have now, is a radio waves one, and it's not
made as well as the van Gordon ones were, and most people don't read the
directions with this one but with this one you need about 10 turns in the
coax just at the point it meets the twin lead. If you don't have those
turns, which I didn't need with the van gordon one, it won't tune right or
work well. I'm still disappointed with this one, especially with bad
conditions it seems like with good conditions it's fine, but a slight drop
off and I'm in trouble. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before I can
go with something better. The G5RV is an OK antenna, but there are better
out there and you need to do your homework on which one you get because some
are not made as well as others. I'd never buy a radio waves one again. I
could actually easily make the same thing and it would be a go kit antenna
but for every day I'd build something better, it's only a matter of time
before it breaks. It does tune with the TS-2000 and TS-930 internal tuners
where it's supposed to. That's about all it does though, nothing extra where
as the van gordon one I had I could talk in to 60 meters, and 30 meters with
the internal tuner.
