Hi Chad,
Hey, I understand about being out of the ham radio game for a while.
Smile. On a 5/8 wave, they work the best against a quarter wave ground
plain. So, if one is able to connect a quarter wave to the ground shield as
close as possible to the antenna the performance increases dramatically. It
helps both the transmit and receive. For some reason I can not explain
physically connecting the ground plain wire to the ground shield works much
better then connecting the mag mount to a big metal ground plain. This is
just my experience.
God bless,
Mark
