It would also be good to know which screen reader is being used here.
It sounds like you're having trouble with email coming in as HTML. When
reading the email message, try hitting alt then h then x then v to bring
it up in a web browser. I don't use Outlook 2007 any more, but this work
around is documented at:

If you're using JAWS, I'd suggest going into the DAISY tutorials to read
up on JAWS and Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010. I don't recall if the above
work around is discussed there, but I know they helped me with things
like using the ribbon.
If you don't like OUtlook, you could also try Windows Live Mail or
Thunderbird, which is what I use now.
