I had asked for any web source for a text version of driving directions 
from point a to point b which used to be available on google maps and 
mapquest.

Thanks to all for their suggestions.  I should have mentioned that my 
browser is lynx with which google maps and mapquest don't work.

Also the suggestion for:

http://www.google.com/m/directions

Loads an ap or file that lynx does not accept.

The idea of the by phone directions is fine but does not allow a text 
version that can be saved as print.

Are there any other suggestions?
