I had posted last week about my friend who was diagnosed but still cheats and that it's causing others in our mutual circle of fiends to question why I'm so strict on the diet. I asked for advice on how to encourage her to stick to the diet as well as how to handle the questions from our friends about why I don't take "just a bite".

The overwhelming majority of responses I got told me (most of them nicely) that I need to worry about myself and she will make her own decisions as an adult.

Some people suggested I be straight forward and remind her about all the complications that come with not following the GF diet.

Most people sympathized and said they know of at least one fellow Celiac who does not follow the diet. They said I need to find a way to let it NOT bother me and just re-enforce to our friends that I am more sensitive to gluten than my friend and she is more willing to take risks.

Some people mentioned how they take risks but they are fine and have the test results to prove it.

To each his own. I recognize that I am on the one side of the GF lifestyle. I don't take risks, I'm very careful about where I choose to eat out at and the last thing I think of is cheating since it will land me in bed for at least two days. Some people fall in the middle and others don't fall any where on the GF bandwagon.

On another note, the last time I saw her she mentioned she cheated and had a migraine for 4 days and felt horrible. I casually replied "You can't do that!" and she agreed and said she isn't going to cheat anymore. Time will tell!

Thanks every one who responded. Sorry if I didn't personally respond to you. My 3 year old had a medical emergency and our world has turned upside down for the time being.

Amy
