Well, it should spellcheck a reply just by pressing f7 but it won't by 
default spellcheck the original text you were replying to, just what you 
write.

If you also want it to spellcheck the original text in the reply or 
forwarded message, do the following:

1.  Alt T for Tools, O for Options.

2.  Control tab to the spellcheck tab.

3.  Clear the checkbox that says "the original text in a reply or forward".
