Are you saying that your Windows Vista computer is having some
performance issues, and you're looking for help resolving them?
Here are a few things I do on my Windows systems. This mostly applies to
Windows XP. I haven't run Windows Vista and I haven't used Windows Seven
enough yet to do any of this.
1) Remove any programs you know you don't need or use any more.
2) Make sure programs you don't need running all the time are not being
started up automatically when Windows starts.
3) Run a disk clean utility.
4) Scan the hard drive for any malware. Note I perform the first two
steps before this just to speed things up.
5) Run a registry cleaning program. Be careful with this step. I'm not
sure how effective this is anymore, and I almost consider it optional.
6) Defragment your hard drive. I personally don't do this any more, but
some people still swear by it.
Are you running any programs you didn't used to run? If so, you may need
a bit more memory. I've found my Windows systems with JAWS run quite a
bit better with 4G of memory.
