I asked my Reader Advisor in Sacramento how best to preserve the lives of
the batteries in the
two types of Library of Congress talking-book players and received the
following very helpful recommendations.
Nelson
I spoke with our machine technician, Charlie, regarding your email.
He said that if it's easiest for you, it doesn't harm the machines to just
leave them plugged into the wall all the time. The batteries are being built
better than they used to be, and the machine batteries don't get ruined as
easily as they did in the past.
If you don't want to leave them plugged in all the time, his recommendations
are as follows:
For the cassette player, once a week you can run the battery all the way
down, and then charge it back up. This will prolong the life of the battery,
but only by a small amount.
For the digital player, try not to let it go lower than three hours of
remaining battery life before charging it back up again.
Thank you,
Laura, Reader Advisor
