1874 - White Democrats seize the statehouse in a Louisiana 'coup 
	d'etat.' President Grant orders the revolutionaries to 
	disperse, and the rebellion collapses. Twenty-seven 
	persons (sixteen whites and eleven Blacks) are killed in
	battles between the Democrats and Republicans.

1891 - John Adams Hyman joins the ancestors in Washington, DC.  
	He was the first African American congressman from the 
	state of North Carolina.

1921 - Constance Baker Motley is born in New Haven, Connecticut.  
	She will achieve many distinctions in her career, 
	including being the first African American woman elected 
	to the New York Senate in 1964, the first woman Manhattan 
	borough president, and the first African American woman 
	to be named as a federal court judge in 1966. She will 
	later serve as chief judge of the Southern District of 
	New York until she joins the ancestors on September 28, 
	2005.

1940 - African Americans are allowed to enter all branches of 
	the United States Military Service, when President 
	Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Selective Service Act.

1964 - Leontyne Price and A. Philip Randolph are among the 
	recipients of the Medal of Freedom awarded by President 
	Lyndon B. Johnson.

1970 - One African American is killed and two whites are injured
	in shoot-out between activists and police officers in a 
	New Orleans housing project.

1973 - Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones is born in New York City, New York.
	He will become a rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur and 
	investor known professionally as Nas. The son of jazz 
	musician Olu Dara, Nas will release eight consecutive 
	platinum and multi-platinum albums and sell over 30 
	million records worldwide. He will also be an entrepreneur 
	through his own record label; and serves as associate 
	publisher of Mass Appeal magazine and the co-founder of 
	Mass Appeal Records. His musical career will begin in 1991, 
	as a featured artist on Main Source's "Live at the 
	Barbeque". His debut album Illmatic (1994) will receive 
	universal acclaim from both critics and the hip-hop 
	community and will be frequently ranked as one of the 
	greatest hip-hop albums of all time. His follow-up "It Was
	Written" will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, stay on 
	top for four consecutive weeks, go Double Platinum in two 
	months, and will make him internationally known. From 2001 
	to 2005, he will be involved in a highly publicized feud 
	with Jay-Z, popularized by the diss track "Ether". He will
	sign to Def Jam in 2006. In 2010, he will release "Distant 
	Relatives," a collaboration album with Damian Marley, 
	donating all royalties to charities active in Africa. His 
	11th studio album, "Life Is Good" (2012) will be nominated 
	for Best Rap Album at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. In 
	2006, MTV will rank him at #5 on their list of "The 
	Greatest MCs of All Time". In 2012, The Source will rank 
	him #2 on their list of the "Top 50 Lyricists of All Time". 
	In 2013, he will be ranked 4th on MTV's "Hottest MCs in the 
	Game" list. About.com will rank him first on their list of 
	the "50 Greatest MCs of All Time" in 2014, and a year 
	later, he will be featured on "The 10 Best Rappers of All 
	Time" list by Billboard. He will release eight consecutive 
	platinum albums and will selll over 30 million records 
	worldwide. 

1989 - Jimmy Butler III is born in Houston, Texas. He will become a
	professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the 
	National Basketball Association (NBA). After playing one 
	year of college basketball for Tyler Junior College, he will
	transfer to Marquette University. He will be drafted with 
	the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Chicago 
	Bulls. He will be a four-time NBA All-Star, a four-time NBA 
	All-Defensive Team honoree, and a two-time All-NBA Team 
	honoree. In 2015, he will be named the NBA Most Improved 
	Player. On June 22, 2017, he will be traded to the Minnesota 
	Timberwolves. Shortly before training camp in 2018, he will
	requested a trade from the Timberwolves. On November 12, 
	2018, he will be traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. On 
	July 6, 2019, Butler will sign with the Miami Heat via a 
	sign and trade with the 76ers in a four-team trade.

1995 - Derrick Deshaun Watson is born in Gainesville, Georgia. He
	will become a NFL quarterback for the Houston Texans. He 
	will play college football at Clemson and lead the team to 
	a CFP championship game appearance in 2015 and a national 
	championship win in 2016. He will be selected by the 
	Texans 12th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2018, his 
	second year, he will be named to his first career Pro Bowl. 

2003 - Yetunde Price, the oldest sister of tennis stars Venus 
	and Serena Williams, joins the ancestors at the age of 
	31 after being fatally shot at her place of business.
