well, I talked to KE6M in banning california this afternoon on 10 meters,
and he was using an IMax 2000 very successfully.
Remember, if you have a tuner, you can probably tune up a coat hanger, so
just being able to tune the imax2000 or the A99 on 20 meters doesn't mean
it'll perform there.
Though I do wonder if the imax2000 or a99 type antennas can be cut down for
6 meters?
We were discussing this last night on the repeater and came to the
conclusion that the coil and capacitor at the base of the antenna would
restrict the antenna's ability to operate on frequencies above 30MHZ.
Alternative is that one can by-pass the coil by connecting a jumper wire
directly to the vertical element with a hose clamp or something, while still
using the mounting and ground plain assembly.
This assumes the vertical element is straight aluminum and not fiberglass
covered tubing.
There are lots of the old aluminum half wave ground plain type CB antennas
around for free or very cheap that could easily be modified.
