I am sure that many of you listened to Bill, W8VYZ, and his rock
crushing AM signal, just like I did. In my case, I heard him as far
back as 1966.
The first time I heard him, he was on 10 meters, talking with a
station in Argentina, using a mixture of English and Spanish.
Later, I couldn't believe the strength of the signal he generated on
20 and 40 meters into my window screen receiving antenna.
The last time I heard him, which must have been about a year ago, he
sounded so feeble that it really hurt to listen to him.
I worked him twice, one time on 20, and one time on 15 meters, but
heard him everywhere, including 6 meters.

Dear Dave, it's my sad job to tell you that Ashtabula Bill is not
doing well. He entered Hospice care at Erie VA hospital yesterday. I
took him in Tues and there was nothing they could do for him . I
wanted to bring him home to care for him but they transferred him to
the Hospice Unit there til that can be worked out. Will see the Dr Mon
and see where we go from here but not sure if we will have the time to
move him home. They are taking good care of him there. Thought you
could get the word out to the Ham community and ask for prayers and
good thoughts for him. He is comfortable the problem is his lungs just
not getting enough O2 Luv Sylvia
73 = Best Regards,
Geoff/W5OMR
