Danny,
The first thing I would try is putting your dummy load on the output of the amp and see if you still have the problem. It is quite possible you are getting RF back into the K3, and that is the problem.
When I have my 15 meter antenna pointed at the house and the Alpha amp on (no problem running 100 watts QRP with the K3) , our new Bosh refrigerator “turns on” the water outlet you use to fill up a glass and floods the kitchen floor. The only way to reset it is to unplug the refrigerator (opening the door stops it, but when the door is shut again, the water starts running)! Of course, when the door is open for more than 15 seconds, the infernal “door ajar” alarm starts buzzing; don’t know which is worse, water all over the kitchen floor or having to listen to that buzzer. Both seem to upset the XYL.
The temporary fix for now is to have two buckets by the refrigerator; but I can tell you the XYL is getting damn tired of me telling her I am on 15 and to “man the fridge”!!! Her job: as one bucket fills up, to exchange for the empty one and then run and empty the full one so it is ready to exchange for the one that is now filling up. Once I am done in 15 meters, to reset the processor, I go trip and reset the circuit breaker for the refrigerator (otherwise I have to pull it out from the wall to get to the plug and reset it that way).
She tells me she has better things to do; but we are both retired, so I don’t think helping me out occasionally with my hobby is asking too much?? In any case, it is a good thing I don’t operate on 15 with the antenna pointed at the house too often!!! Good things always come to an end; so one of these days she is going to get fed up with “helping me out”. I guess I will have to take “time out” and run to the garage and trip the breaker on the refrigerator before “firing up” on 15 meters (hopefully I remember to reset it when I am finished). Assume if I forget to reset the breaker, the spoiled food is going to upset the XYL too. O, the problems we have with our hobby now a days!!
Good luck with your problem.
