I think for most people, elmers are a thing of the past.
we've talked about this kind of thing on list before, and I think many blind
hams have difficulty finding willing club members to help with antenna
projects.
You are very fortunate to have such dedicated ham ops in your area that can
come and help.
I too have a decent group of folks in the local club, and I have no doubt
that if I needed help with antenna work, I would have a similar response as
you do.
We've got several members who climb towers for a living and install them all
over the place...and they have been known to show up on a saturday afternoon
to help put up a tower. They usually give lots of advice before hand as
well to make sure you have your bass and foundation all done properly...so
that when they do show up, it can go more smoothly.
