Mike,

The logger I use is Writelog, which is a contest logger and not free.
I've been using it over 10 years, and although I have a lot of QSO's
in the log, I'd have a hard time recommending it to others. It can be
a royal pain to set up, even for sighted folks. I'm pretty much used to
the way things work, so I rx with mmtty, then alt-tab to Writelog to TX
and log the contact.

I'm using JAWS 11. It doesn't seem to read as good on my new Windows 7
pc, so the last time I did RTTY in the JARTS RTTY test a few weeks ago,
I did RX on my old XP pc and TX and logging on the Win 7 pc.

To TX from within MMTTY, use the f keys. Several can be set as macros
to transmit a message. One of the f keys (I forget which) puts you
direct into TX and you just type what you want to send. It's either
escape, or another F key to abort transmission. Read the help file on
sound card selection, so it knows which sound card is to be used.

If you are using the Signal Link USB, you are limited to AFSK operation,
where the sound card generates the rtty tones in ssb mode. If your rig
and interface allow FSK operation, where the radio is keyed and no
sound card is used for transmit, you can dial the filters down more and
it will be easier to tune in a RTTY signal. Either way, just tune
across the incoming signal until the speech starts reading real text.

Like all this digital stuff, you need to get your rx up and working with
your screen reader before worrying about transmitting. The receive
end of this stuff is always harder to deal with, and if you can't get
that right, no sense going any further.
