Hi.
If you've been using EchoLink, or are interested in it, then read on. For
those who don't know what EchoLink is, it's software that allows licensed
amateur radio operators to communicate with each other over VOIP. Some of
us have radios connected to our computers, which allow mobile stations or
others using radios to connect to the EchoLink system. I have my TM-V71A
tuned to our local emergency operations repeater, and it has been used to
link other sites around our state in the winter when we were getting snow,
and a weather net was run with the control op connected via EchoLink.
So much for the explanation, now let me give some good news. Note that I
said that EchoLink links hams using VOIP. I specificly didn't say that they
were using PC's. This is because you can now get EchoLink for a MAC, and,
good news for us iPhone users, it is there for the iPhone! I've tried it,
and it works pretty well. I wasn't able to connect to the network for a few
days, and I figured I had done something wrong with the setup. Just for
fun, I decided I'd give the program one more try before I deleted it from
the iPhone and reinstalled it, hoping I could set it up again. Go figure.
It worked this time. I successfully connected to the test server, and I
recorded and heard my test message, complete with VoiceOver talking. I had
some difficulty, but this may be me not being used to the program, and this
will lead to my question.
If you have used EchoLink on the iPhone, is there a quick and easy way to
activate the transmit button? I didn't find it. I'm listening to
basketball now, so I'll play with EchoLink later on. The server will
probably not let me connect again, if Mr. Murphy works the way he usually
does.
Just sending this for the curious.
Have a good day, and don't work too hard.
