I'm not in the expert category. I will tell you I recently got a sony vio 
laptop which the note book shop, a local store aound Los Angeles, steered 
me to when I asked for a desk top replacement.
Hard dirve has a speed of 7200 and I don't remember much else about it. 
I'm very happy with it.
Its running windows seven of course which after xp you may enjoy.
