I've never had much luck with Open Office and JAWS. It's been a while 
since I've tried it out though. Maybe the latest JFW with the latest 
Open Office will give better results that what I recall. Open Office is 
free, so there's nothing lost but a little time in trying it out.

Another free option is IBM Lotus Symphony, which I find works better 
with the latest JFW than Open Office. I don't have the URL handy, but I 
never have any trouble finding it with Google, Bing or Yahoo.

It depends on how you use your computer, but I wouldn't think most users 
would see much advantage in a quad core, but of course, the rule of 
thumb is to always get as much computer as you can afford.

I'm confused by the question about 32-bit or 64-bit. I'm pretty sure all 
modern computers, definitely anything running dual or quad core, would 
be 64-bit. I guess you're asking whether to go with a 32-bit or a 64-bit 
Windows. I'd suggest 64-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7. Among other 
things, you won't be limited to 3-3.5G of memory.
