World's First Certified Gluten-Free Skin Care
Zosia Organics of Cotuit, Mass., has become the first skin-care line in the
world to be certified by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization
(GFCO).
The GFCO is a nonprofit, independent service that uses strict, uniform,
scientific standards backed by field inspections to confirm that a product is
gluten-free. Products labeled with the GFCO certification mark go beyond
the requirements of government regulations and allow people with gluten
intolerance to shop with confidence. The GFCO is the world's authority on
gluten-free certifications.
Until now, GFCO has primarily focused on food products. Zosia Organics took
the bold step of seeking certification for its skin-care line, which
already uses certified organic and vegan ingredients and nontoxic preservatives.
Company founder Tania Myers recognized that gluten-sensitive consumers are
concerned with the risk of inadvertent consumption and skin reactions
through daily use of skin-care products.
Myers sees this as the start of a new trend, as consumers continue to
demand effective products that not only contain pure ingredients but cater to
individual needs.
A certified herbalist and licensed aesthetician, Myers started making
skin-care products more than a decade ago as a hobby. Now her line of cleansers,
moisturizers, toners, serums and exfoliants for the face and body is sold
in select natural food stores, high-end spas and on the company website.
"My products have always been created with the highest quality in mind,"
Myers says. "I have always used certified organic ingredients and they have
always been gluten-free. It was important to me to become certified
gluten-free to provide a product that people can immediately trust."
