Ezra
Nigeria/France/Austria, 2007, 35mm, color, 110 min.
Directed by Newton Aduaka
With Mamoudou Turay Kamara, Mariame N'Diaye, Mamusu Kallon
The 2007 winner of FESPACO's most prestigious award, L'Etalon de Yenenga, Ezra is the first African film to address the disturbing practice of abducting children for military service in the continent's recent civil wars. 16 year old Ezra has to appear before his country's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The week long hearing is inter-cut with flashbacks to crucial moments during Ezra's ten years in the rebel faction which made him who he is. Print source: WIDE (France) with the permission of California Newsreel. Special thanks to Amélie Garin-Davet (WIDE) and Cornelius Moore (California Newsreel)
