I've been wondering about this for a long time.

When I first started getting sick with celiac disease, my doctor
investigated possible heart disease because I had been diagnosed with
rheumatic fever at seven years of age. My brother had it, they thought I had
it. I don't know what my symptoms might have been...

New doctor found nothing wrong with my heart. After EEGs, sonograms and
intense listening for murmur...nothing, zero, zilch. I remained undiagnosed
with CD for another 13 years, though.

New doc called to talk to my mother to make sure I hadn't gotten it wrong.
Yes, I was on penicillin for years, yes I had blood tests every 6 weeks,
yes, the doc told her I had rheumatic fever.

My question to the group is: Does anyone know what the diagnostic procedure
for rheumatic fever was in the sixties? There weren't antibody tests, was he
just looking at white count?

I'm thinking I had celiac symptoms that were misdiagnosed. Thoughts?
