Yet to be confirmed news reaching The Gambia Journal says that there
has been a wave of arrests of officials who are or used to be
connected to the Gambian Judiciary last week. According to the
information, former Chief Justice, Abdul Karim Savage is among those
in police detention. Also named is Amina Saho who is the Master of the
High Court and several other officials whose identities were not made
clear. The arrests are rumored to stem out of an auditing exercise on
the judiciary for the year 2008. The informants add that large amounts
of monies paid in as fines and charges could not be accounted for.
In a related issue, rumors are again making the rounds on the
detention of former Chief of Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Lt.
General Lang Tombong Tamba. It was earlier this month that he was
sacked together with four other top military officers. His arrest was
first rumored about two weeks ago, but this time he is said to be
under house arrest.
