Things are never as good as they used to be.  That's revisionist history, 
but somehow comforting.  To see how the language continues to change, try a 
paragraph of James Patterson, John Steinbeck, Jack London, Charles Dickens, 
Thomas Jefferson, William Shakespeare, and Jeffery Chaucer.  Then try a bit 
of Beowulf just for fun.
