Sounds to me like the usual confusion of ketosis with ketoacidosis.
What does your doctor want you to eat? If the answer is low fat and
high complex carbs, then you need another doctor, or you need to
educate this one. Showing him or her how low-carb paleo can cure type
2 would be a great way to do that.
