Hi fellow hams.
My name is Darren and I am a new ham holding a tech license. I am still
waiting on my call sign to appear in the ARRL database so I don't even have
that yet.
I bought a WOUXUN KG-UV2D VHF/UHF Dual Band HT because of the talking
features that it has. I have been listening to it for about a week and a
half now wishing I could say hello to all of the wonderful people I was
hearing and check in to the nets as well.
I have had a great mentor in to the world of ham radio. I am a drummer and I
play in the worship band at my church. My bass player James Millsap call
sign WB4NWS turned me on to amateur radio.
I had known of blind hams for years but never took an interest in it.
Now, I am hooked! I still don't understand frequencies and bands and such,
Jim having programmed my radio for me. But I want to learn how to do it on
my own.
There is a big ham fest coming up here in about a week and I can't wait to
go. I am planning on buying a mag mount for when I am on the road, and
getting a better antenna that I can put up on top of my house for better
reception when I am not mobile. I might even get a hat with my call on it
just for fun lol!
I do have a question here.... How do you go about finding repeater
information? Is there an accessible repeater directory?
Thanks for any help you can give.
It's great to be a part of such a cool group of people, and I'm talking
about hams in general not just this list smile.
Thanks.
Darren Duff.
