I just checked there and didn't see any downloads for that radio; but, will
check again. That way only need to purchase the programming cable.

Don:
The programming software can be gotten free from the Kenwood web site.
I forget the specific details since it's been a number of years, but I
recall it was pretty easy to find on the Kenwood site under the TMV71A.

Ok well plan to primarily use it of course at home like a base station.
Do you need the programming software or program too or can it be gotten from
Kenwood?

Don:
The rig comes with the necessary power cord, a microphone, and an assortment
of mounting hardware.
It is enough, certainly, to get you going on the air.
If you want to use the rig for a mobile installation, you might need to
purchase the mobile extension kit.
As I said earlier, the VGS1 voice chip must be ordered separately, as is
true with the computer interface programming cable.

Don:
If you get the VGS1 voice chip, everything else you will need to operate the
TMV71A will come in the box.
I would, though, recommend getting the programming interface cable, since
programming the radio with the software is quite easy, especially if you
have a lot of channel information to enter.
The prices you quote sound quite reasonable.
R and L is a good outfit to deal with, and I believe they will even install
the VGS1 chip for you if you tell them you are blind.
I would recommend having the chip installed by the dealer if possible,
although I realize this is just a matter of personal choice.
I hope this helps.
I have three TMV71A's myself--one for the house, one for the car, and one
for our motor home. It is an absolutely amazing radio with top knotch
accessibility.

Hello all,
Looking at the Kenwood TMV71A and know lots if not most or all of you own
this radio.
So figured before buy one would ask a couple of simple questions.
What all comes with it out of the box and to operate the radio would I just
need to purchase the vgs1 for speech readout or should I also purchase the
computer interface package too?
R&L has the radio for $359.95 is why was asking as it's the lowest price
have seen so far from the different resources have saved in my internet
browser favorites.
GigaParts shows it for $369.95, Universal shows it for $369.95, Ham Radio
shows it for $369.95.
So thinking about purchasing it from R&L; but, need to know what else
recommend in order to operate the radio out of the box?
These prices are all with the $30 off coupon.
