To echo what Steve has said here, I'll add the idea of getting a TW1 to
help in the tuning process if possible.

Last I heard, they were still available from the W4RT web site.

Fred,

I have an Ameratron AL-811H, and have not had any difficulty tuning it. I
always tune into a dummy load using a TW-1 in the mode where it emits a
tone. I tune the plate for maximum reading, and adjust the grid to the
point where the reading starts to decrease. I don't know if this is
technically the correct way to tune the amplifier, but I haven't fried
anything, and the tubes still seem to work after several years. I can't
speak to other tubes, but with 811s, I'd say that you won't have any trouble
as long as you keep your wits about you.

Steve
