This sounds like a problem with the display driver (usually nv4_disp).
The no screen condition is unusual, and makes this hard to troubleshoot.
You might try running the diagnostics if you see the "F12 for boot
options" at startup, otherwise you could try an external screen and
reinstall the driver.

My dell laptop inspiron crashed. I get no screen now. But when I did get
a screen it said N4_disp , the device driver got stuck in an infinite
loop which usually indicated a problem in the device itself or the
device driver prograMMING the hardware incorrectly. Check Dell for
driver updates. I disconnected the printer which was the only thing
attached. It is going thru a wireless. Without a screen I cannot proceed
with tests or do a restore. Should I reinstall the os? It is Windows xp
Media sp3.
