I find the setting to raise the mike level, but not the advance button.  Is 
it lost on XP home?  Gary KB2YAA

In echo link: alt-t for tools menu, then arrow down to "adjust volume", then
select "recording".    Now you are in your windows volume control.   Raise
the slider under "microphone" and if necessary, hit  the "advanced"
button,and  select the 20 db mic boost.
