Didn't lose focus at all, John. Trying to help you find yours. This is not new. This isn't even news or newsworthy. What is in this article should be common knowledge to everyone of color in this country and to enlightened (LOL!) majority people. We need to be focused on inequalities like this in the Madison area. Such as, predominantly Black hip-hop clubs closed down for far fewer police calls than those the predominantly white clubs on campus have and they get to stay open. Halloween. Need I say more? Where else would a city pay for extra police and hire bands just to entertain thousands of drunken white children? Where's the outrage? That money could be used for something useful. Do you really think the Mifflin Street Block party would ever happen if it were all drunken, rowdy, black kids? No, No, and No, a thousand times no.
Wake up, John. Instead of automatically taking an opposite stance purely on principle, why don't you do a little research and find out what the core of the tea partiers are trying to say. Not the gun-toting fringes, the rational, law-abiding core. And the spitting incident hasn't been authenticated, it's hard to find out if it really happened because I have been looking into it and the racial slur thing, too.
Do you even know what the Tea Party movement is? No? They don't either! There are a hundred different parties with a hundred different views. Some are more Republican than others and some aren't very happy with either party, they hate 'em both. Some have more minorities than others do, some have differing ratios of males & females, most seem to be middle-aged.
Guess what? You have something in common with the Republican party John. They don't like the Tea Partiers either!! Wait a minute...according to the brush you paint me with, that makes you a Republican, doesn't it??
We have a bigger problem in the Madison area. Yep. Bigger than the Tea Party movement. We have hundreds of undiagnosed and untreated mental health issues in the Black community, especially our young males. A lot of the crimes and assaults that we see are the result of untreated mental health issues. Much of the domestic disturbances and drug use are also results. We lock people up rather than assess and treat.
I would much rather hear adult Black males yelling about getting a mental health screen or a physical than what the Tea Party is doing or what Bush and Cheney did.
It'd be a lot more useful and may actually help somebody.
