I am pretty sure that a lot of people with celiac disease suffer from very dry eyes -- so I expect I have a lot of company here. I'm in my 60s and have had dry eyes since I was in my early 20s -- and now it's just getting worse and worse, and I'm simply miserable.

I went to the ophthalmologist -- who agreed that I have exceptionally dry eyes -- and he ordered up prescriptions for a steroid drops and also for Restatis. I was so excited to finally possibly have some remedy at hand, until I got to the drugstore to pick them up, seeing the tab for it all was over $400, none of which is covered by my insurance! (My annual deductible is $2500, and I'm nowhere near meeting it.) And that was just for one month -- I was told that I'd continue on the Restasis pretty much forever, and that was the bulk of that cost. I just cried a few real tears, and told the pharmacy, no thanks. We just simply can't afford eye drops that cost more than payments for a new car. (Ha ha -- we can't afford a new car either!)

But if some folks out there are using some really effective over-the-counter, non-prescription eye drops that really work for dry eye -- I'd really like to know (and will share, if there are any answers to this). Or maybe some folks have home remedies that work. Now that it's summer, very hot and allergy season, I'm just beside myself with this problem!

Thanks for the help!
