I differ to whjat I said.
All boiled down and too simply stated
I f I remember correctly
there are three stages in a childs development
After the first 40 days it enters into phase 2 (changes status changes name
legally technically )
(three stages 3 different names ie legal status so to speak)
in this second stage it is considered a human being per se.
Meaning JUST that.
Now torah says nowhere a mother MUST ABSOLUTELY give up her life For her
childs' life is MORE valuable //important
now beyond this, on a case by case basis expert rabbis dayanim judges in
torah/bible law will deside what happens if god forbid a diff birth
But I repeat
torah says nowhere EVER a mother MUST ABSOLUTELY give up her life For her
childs' life is MORE valuable //important

Meir,
Just so I understand.... the Torah specifies a period of 40 days after which
abortion is not permitted? Is the Torah ever updated?"
IS an absolute perfect thing created by G-d in need of changing:) ?
because if it's not, very few women would have known they were pregnant at
the time the "deadline" passed.
Even today, there are a lot of women who wouldn't now. After 7 miscarriages
(over 9 years),
Ohhh I'm soo sorry how EMOTIONALLY WRENCHING! :(
Janet and I have done a lot of soul searching on the issue of abortion, and
have still not reached a decision. For us, It's a moot point as we're in
our late 40's, but....
Understood
and I just hope/pray these things never come to pass anymore

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.
