This is a message from Zalo regarding the diagnosis of his daughter. He
had questions I didn't have answers for. I'm leaving for the summer, and
won't be on e-mail anymore, but he can read English (slowly), so go ahead
and respond to him.
Laura (my daughter) is doing well following the diet, after 3 biopsies
(one to test if the intestine was bad, one after eliminating gluten from
the diet, and one more after a gluten challenge).
It's about a year since she was diagnosed definitively. In the U.S.,
how many biopsies do they do before making a definitive diagnosis? How
many gluten challenges followed by posterior biopsies? Once they have
made the definitive diagnosis, how many blood tests to see if the
patient is ingesting gluten?
They do blood tests for the antibodies once a year on my daughter, but
the doctor said that won't be necessary anymore.
When Laura did the gluten challenge, she didn't experience esternal
problems - only intestinal damage. But it seems that could be common. .
