I was so excited when I saw the name of somebody I "sort of know" in this newsletter. I won't go into an explanation of why a farmer (retired) in Vermont gets this newsletter about preserving buildings in NYC but they have sent it to me for several years. I always read it though most of it doesn't mean a thing to me. Ruth E-BULLETIN OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICTS COUNCIL March 2010, Volume 7, Number 3.1 <http://hdc.org/blog/2010/03/03/the-macdonough-street-houses-in-context/>MacDonough Street Houses In Context In case you missed it, this past weekend, New York Times columnist <http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/people/g/christopher_gray/index.html>Christopher Gray wrote <http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/28/realestate/28scape.html>an architectural survey of MacDonough Street in Brooklyn's <http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/reports/STUYVESANT_HEIGHTS_HISTORIC_DISTRICT.pdf>Stuyvesant Heights Historic District. Mr. Gray even led a special walking tour of the area which has been described to us by a tour-goer as "<http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/02/28/realestate/20100228scape_ss.html>atreasure trove of brownstone houses". Our correspondent went on to say "there was a big turnout for the walk, with a strong representation of local residents whom Christopher had met in researching his article. The locals know the history of their own houses and the area and are very proud of them. It makes <http://www.nylandmarks.org/advocacy/preservation_issues/conservancys_technical_director_in_midst_of_fight_to_save_historic_brownsto/>saving the two brownstones much more meaningful". -- Ruth Barton [log in to unmask] Dummerston, VT -- **Please remember to trim posts, as requested in the Terms of Service** To terminate puerile preservation prattling among pals and the uncoffee-ed, or to change your settings, go to: <http://listserv.icors.org/archives/bullamanka-pinheads.html>
