Calabash and Gourds are both members of the Cucurbitaceae family and are old world veg... native to Africa and or Asia... so yeah... all depends on how 'religious' one is in their paleo interpretation

I guess it depends on how strict one's definition of paleo is. Cucurbitae are New World vegetables that do cause allergic reactions.
