very well stated, Trish! Amen!
I agree, the uaw has to go. however there are still jobs that need unions; farmworkers & garment factories.
Ken, I resent having you say I was talking B.S...

Hi Virginia,
I was amused that the auto beggars - all arrived here in their private
jets. Not a one of them has a qualm about wasting the money on their
comfort - and there are 24 commercial flights a day from Detroit to
Washington, which would truly have cost less. I think a flight in a
private plane cost like 10,000 a pop, plus you have to have pilots on
staff, a place to park and maintain the planes. They have dug the hole
themselves by not wanting to give up anything - assembly line workers
get I think 60,000 a year and lots of bennies and the bigwigs - well one
of them made 17 million last year. I am not crying for them. They have
had 30 years to see the writing on the wall and chose not to - and its
not like all the foreign car companies don't have auto plants here using
American workers and making hybrid cars. So they should have emulated
the competition instead of waiting to be bailed out, and the Money they
set aside for the in 2007 was contingent on them figuring out how to get
better gas mileage and only GM with its battery idea did anything.
What's amazing in Finland they are running Hydrogen cars in some areas.
The technology and ideas are out there they are just ignoring - of
course part of this is the union problem. The manufactures can't retool
a factory without union approval - and they are slow to give that - so
it's easier for the company to close a plant and build a new one
somewhere else. The days of the unions need to be over.

Depends on how far north you are. The Idaho National Laboratory uses
