I think the following quote is pertinent to the latest List entries,
for all of us.

"We tend to engage in “a pre-conceived, self-confirming journey for
validation, rather than a quest for knowledge.” ... “We must catch
ourselves in the act of trying to verify our own
preconceptions.”...This is a problem for armchair scientists long on
theory and short on experimentation.... “The distinction between true
believers and skeptics comes at the point of interpretation of
