I am going to double check the manual for something in the menues but I
don't think you have any control over this. It has been about 8 years since
I looked at the speech board but it didn't look like there were any
adjustments.
I find the s mere readion of not much value so for frequency read out there
are a couple of options.
1. switch to am while reading the freq this can work if on a quiet band.
2. turn on the atenuator to reduce backround noise while reading. (this
will mess up the s meter and is also not recomended as it is to easy to
forget to turn off the attenuator)

3. My preferred method turn the squeltch to the right until backround noise
is gone. then read the freq then turn that knob back to the senter.

also an external speaker makes a huge diference on this rig. I think you
will find the speach synthesizer (ut102) easier to hear with an external
speaker. when reaching behind the radio from the front the external speaker
jack is the one on the right

Are you sure? I spoke with icom and a e s and both tell me there is no
adjustment on the board. I'm confused, and the speach board is mounted
under the add on digital noise reduction module, so not easy to get at
unless I'm sure.
