I loved my ameritron al1200 I think it was.  It sure had power and worked
fine.

Sure, no problem.  And of course there are guys on this list who were tuning
amps when I was in kindergarten. Also, depending on what amp you wind up
with, you should fine someone here who has experience with that 
particular model.   I currently have in the shack an Ameritron AL-80B with 
single 3-500z tube and a THP  solid state.

Good luck.  hope your chimney is big enough for Santa to slide the  amp
down.
