                                   NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA

                              Thursday, December 31, 2009

8:00 PM till Midnight and beyond …

                                         Grand Ball Room

                                      Knights of Columbus

                                       5256 Verona Road

                                     Fitchburg, WI 53711

Do you really find the Republicans' (rejected) amendments responsible? What ever happened to the proverbial "prevention is better than cure"? Where are these Republicans when the teen mothers need help raising their babies? Aren't they the same people who have ostracized the teen and single economically disadvantaged mothers?

In any case, careful scientific studies indicate rather consistently that condom distribution programs are not significantly related to initiation of sexual intercourse (in other words, they don't prompt young people to start having sex), but they DO promote safer sexual practices among youth who are sexually active. With Milwaukee's relatively high rate of teen pregnancy, this is a bold but very responsible move on the part of the school district.

Kudos to the MPS for this bold move.
