Ron,

the Mac is accessible out of the box. There's a learning curve, though, 
because the environment is very different from Windows XP and because the 
logic of the screen reader is very different from Jaws.

There are a couple of excellent blind and Vi user Mac and Voiceover lists on 
the net, but they're high traffic, which can be incredibly overwhelming when 
you're proud of yourself for knowing how to turn the computer off. I've 
found it more helpful to be a no-mail subscriber who searches the archives 
for what I need to know and posts only when I can't find the answer or find 
contradictory information.

the Mac Accessibility page has information on getting started with 
Voiceover. though the first two chapters are overwhelming when you're new, 
that seems to be the best way to jump in if you're learning the Mac without 
help.
