The instructions provided below by [log in to unmask] enabled
me to
get JAWS to retain my choice of keyboard echo and will probably turn out to
be helpful for dealing
with other JAWS 12 problems, too.

Subject: JAWS 12 keuyboard echo?
JAWS 12 had disappeared quite a while ago from my laptop, and I was
continuing to use version 11 till a few days ago, when my son-in-law
reinstalled 12. However, I now find that, unlike the keyboard echo setting
in 11, the one in 12 keeps reverting to "None" whenever I change windows.
I asked someone who uses both 11 and 13 how to fix this problem, and she
recommended going to Utilities in the JAWS pulldown menus, arrowing down to
Configuration Manager, pressing Enter and finding Keyboard Echo. I don't
find any such item under Utilities, and I hope you can tell me how to make
my Insert+2 choice of "Characters" stick just as it did in version 11 and
all earlier versions.
