Is there any test out there to show mercury poisoning? if it gets in the
bloodstream, there should be a measurement that could be taken...

There are blood and urine tests as well as hair analysis. The problem,
according to some, is that if it accumulates in your thyroid, adrenal gland, and
brain, it doesn't necessarily show up in the blood or urine. I'm not sure if
the hair analysis people say the same thing or not.

Also, it's not unusual to find a chelating agent (something that's supposed
to separate toxic metals from the body) does suddenly increase blood and urine
levels of mercury. Which means, the toxins were there all along.

I've had the blood test, it was normal. I had it when I had a filling I knew
was deteriorating, a time during which I always feel worse than normal.
Whether that's due to releasing more mercury or a normal problem that would occur
with a toothache in a non filled tooth, I don't know.

Sometimes, the knowledge one can really get from a lab test is a lot more
worthless than doctors or the labs will admit. I hear a good way to really tell
mercury levels is through autopsy. Not a recommended way.

Anyway, several doctors think hair analysis is a good way to measure toxic
metals, not just mercury, so it is probably worth having that done. Some sites
will tell you that a hair analysis can tell you a lot about adrenal function
also, as long as the lab used is one that does not wash the hair. Not washing
the hair is important to measuring proper sodium balance, among other issues.
Dr. Mercola's site (www.mercola.com) also says when the lab doesn't wash the
hair it tells a lot more.
