Dear [Thyroid Folks],

I have a few suggestions:

Bio-Tech Thyroid = thyroid hormone supplemental medicine, 1 grain of
Bio-Tech Thyroid contains 9 mcg T3 (liothyronine, triiodothyronine) and
38 mcg T4 (levo-thyroxine).

Thyrolar = synthetic thyroid hormone supplemental medicine, 1 grain of
Thyrolar contains 12.5 mcg T3 (liothyronine, triiodothyronine) and 50
mcg T4 (levo-thyroxine). Generic name is Liotrix. Manufacturer is
Forest Pharmaceuticals.

Nature-throid = hypoallergenic thyroid hormone supplemental medicine
made from dried pig thyroid glands.

Cytomel = synthetic thyroid hormone supplemental medicine containing
only T3 (liothyronine, triiodothyronine). Available in doses of 5 mcg,
25 mcg. Manufactured by Jones Pharma.

Compounded T3 (SRT3) = synthetic thyroid hormone supplemental
medicine, containing only T3 (liothyronine, triiodothyronine), and
compounded by a pharmacist for the patient's specific dose. This is an
extended-release capsule.

Cortef = synthetic adrenal hormone supplemental medicine containing
hydrocortisone. Levels of hydrocortisone are generally high in the
morning and wane throughout the day.

supps = supplements, over-the-counter vitamins, minerals, and herbs.

DO  =  Doctor of Osteopathy.

Also one suggested addition to an existing entry:

mcg = Microgram, a unit of measure of weight, one thousanth of a
milligram. Also sometimes abbreviated ug (this is not the preferred
abbreviation).

And finally, others for the drug lists -- note Synthroid spelling:

Synthetic T4 only:
 = Synthroid
 = Levothroid
 = Levoxyl
 = Unithroid

Mammalian T4 and T3 with T1 and T2 in trace amounts
= Armour (see Armour above for details)
 = Westhroid
 = Nature-throid

Other thyroid meds I know nothing about: Tapazole (for hyper?),
Thyrogen.

Peace,
Loretta Johnson
